This article analyzes internal rates of return, or money-weighted returns, for mutual funds. Morningstar introduced this calculation, Morningstar Investor Return, and calculates it for open-end mutual funds and exchange-traded funds, based on each fund's assets and cash flows. It supplements total return and measures the collective experience of all the investors in the fund.
